The birthright Quilt documentary is a short piece on the making of the quilt, interviews and stories around birth. Its aim is to provide an insight into the stories behind the quilt pieces, and what birth means for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, together with Midwives and women who have been touched by the state of maternity care for these women and are doing something about it.
The documentary is being directed and filmed by Jackie Schulz and Davini Malcolm and Ric Wallis are providing photographic stills for both the documentary and website (see virtual quilt).
Funding for Jackie to travel to different communities and locations including Alukura at Alice Springs, Perth in Western Australia, Darwin and Canberra has been great-fully provided by the Australian College of Midwives.
This documentary will be previewed for the first time at the Exhibition Opening on December the 9th at the Koorie Heritage Trust Gallery and then tour the nation with the Quilt in 2008.
